AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill for Aging Athletes

Joint pain? Back pain? Want to run but it puts strain on your knees? We are excited to introduce a revolutionary new machine that is advancing a patient’s ability to progress towards their goals and enhance their quality of life. In the short time it has been at our Lynden, WA facility we have already seen many patients benefit and progress their mobility using it. We have had patients do things that they previously were unable to do secondary to pain or other restrictions.

Capstone Physical Therapy has this new revolutionary cutting edge machine called the Alter-G Anti-Gravity Treadmill. It is changing the way we provide skilled Physical Therapy by allowing us to give our patients an amazing opportunity to take their rehabilitation, training, injury prevention and exercise to a new level that was not previously possible.

The Alter-G is a treadmill that allows a patient to walk, jog, run, exercise with the ability to reduce gravity’s impact on their joints by removing anywhere from 0% to 80% of their body weight. The Alter-G works by using a NASA patented Differential Air Pressure unweighting technology. This can make a 200 pound person feel like they are only 40 pounds! By reducing the patient’s body weight it also reduces the resistance, stress and force put on the joints, muscles of the lower extremities and back during normal exercise. There is extensive research supporting the use of the Alter G including clinical studies, case studies and diagnosis specific protocols and a literature review that are all available on the AlterG website.

The Alter-G is an excellent tool for use to use in physical therapy for a diverse population of people ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics. People who will benefit from using the Alter-G are athletes of all levels from professional to youth sports, post-orthopaedic surgery, neurological conditions (such as Parkinson’s, traumatic brain injury, stroke, or other balance impairments) and anybody with difficulty walking/running or fall history.

We are very excited to have the Alter-G at two of our Capstone Physical Therapy locations: Lynden and Bakerview – Bellingham, Washington. Capstone Physical Therapy and the Alter-G have already been featured in an article published in the Lynden Tribune, chronicling the story of how a man with a traumatic brain injury benefited and improved his daily function and quality of life by using the Alter-G in addition to his physical therapy. We have had many people express how thankful they are to have such a helpful, state of the art machine available to them to use. These are the only two Alter-G machines north of the Seattle area. Previously only available to professional sports teams, we are excited to offer this resource to our community. We would love to have you schedule a time to come in and check out the Alter-G and to answer any questions you may have.
